I am currently preparing to record Recuerdos de L'Alhambra for my next album and its probably going to take more
effort to get right than any of the other tracks.
Done some you tube research on the great classical guitarist known for their excellent interpretations of this piece.
One, of course is John Williams.(live) Known for his perfect mistake free playing. Surprisingly he still misses a string. He plays at a good speed but it doesn't move me
The next is Pepe Romero,(live) slower and lots of expression and no mistakes.
The sound might be a bit muddled by buzz but very fluid, every note drops into the next like water and gives the tremolo the dreamy feeling of memories, and very Arabic ones too, the guitar almost sounds like an oud at times.
I love the changes of volume and bending of tempo, it makes it very expressive, definitely takes my heart somewhere.
One of my favourites.
The last one is Julian Bream, a famous English classical guitarist from the 70's.
He plays it a little slower but some how it doesn't sound like a guitar or a demonstration and no mistakes (but its not live)
and I can sit back and enjoy the music. His tremolo is more like mandolin or even a voice.
Funnily enough he doesn't have so many views but I suppose thats the music business for you.
Being a video though the sound production is better.
These are all played on a classical guitar and the design is such as to minimize buzzing and and produce a very clear tone.
I love the sound of this piece on flamenco guitar which I've only heard when I'm playing it but I have to be extremely precise so as not to create buzzing strings.
