The Modeling Guitar Has Relpaced the Expensive Ones

As an owner of many Les Paul guitars from all years I was a bit upset when I first read about the Variax company. I kept telling myself there is just no way that the sound my Lesters make can be duplicated out of that. Heck, mine are made of solid mapel tops, thick solid bodies and that they have special, Wait a minute.

Whats so special about them? Their Necks, frets, heads, thick bodies???? THat doesnt hold water any more. Gibson cuts big pieces out of Lesters to get their weight down. And, if Im not mistaken, just about any guitar with the proper electronics and hardware can now sound just like my expensive LESTERS ON NO!!! All that money I spent.

So, I waited and then I heard of Fenders that now can sound like Les Pauls.....And recently, Even Gibson jumped on the band wagon and their monster can sound like a fender. Or a 59, or a 60 or a 75, or who cares. Im mad. Im upset. When Variax came out everyone said no way. It just dont sound the same. Its all a fake.

I heard recordings and got worried. I mean Im out a bundle if my guitars can be made from cheap guitars and so is Gibson so they of all people should protect their own markets.
Then these China copies show up and I hear a few and they sound tinny and have no Fat Gibson sound to them. Until their entire electronics were replaced. And many had special replacements made and man was I upset. That was when I slowly began selling off a few of my expensive ones and keeping the (*) expensive. I mean it just doesnt make sense to be hanging onto a specific year Lester if that same exact sound can now be produced from a 250 copy!!!!!!!!

I havent bought a copy as yet. Im toying with the idea. I did however buy a $66 dollar Epiphone Special. A model made of plywood and known for its crummy sound. But, the neck and frets are fast and not glued on. ANd yes it has a thinner neck but its really fun to play. If it just sounded half way decent.

So, my first rebuild of any guitar is the $66 Dollar Epi. I spent just under $300 dollars for all electronic parts and thats where Ill stop to see what sort of sound I can get. If it sounds Like my Lesters, Ill not be surprised but I will be upset.

Tune in for more info as I rebuild the Lil Epi.
