Further, I reckon that the best depends on which music is being played.
Also, to an extent the vintage of the guitarist. E.g. I have a very ancient recording of Segovia playing the Bach Am fugue at blistering speed to fit into the short space of a 78 record whereas many of us remember him only from his geriatric performances on the telly when he was in his 80's.
What about Barrios then? He's just a little too old to register on this poll.

Williams has to be the best for me. He turned me on to classic guitar way back with his early Spannish Guitar record... I listened to it maybe 100 times! There was no guitar, no strings, just music...

cheers,
pto.

I too must give a nod to Per Olev and would add Jose Manuel DaPena,Jason Vieaux and Marcin Dyla.

There are many incredibly talented guitarists - when I first started 50 years ago you could count the number of outstanding players on your fingers (plus a couple of toes). Now there are so many it's impossible to choose. My lifetime favorite would be Julian Bream, but the Argentinian Victor Villadangos is astonishing. Like others here, I'm very impressed by Per-Olov Kindgren. Not only is he an outstanding player, but he's also a prolific composer of some very pleasant stuff (I play a lot of it myself - he writes stuff that sounds terrific but is not too hard for arthritic hands to play).

Yeah, Peo apart of being great player and composer is also adored because of his so friendly personality...

But apart of Peo, I wish you to look at this Lady:

She's a mother of 5 kids! But once she attended Segovia mastecrlass, played with Julian Bream for BBC.
Personally I loved her interpretation of famous jazz standard "Misty" by Erroll Garner.

It simply sounds like it was Ella Fitzgerald singing.... What a technique, what a feeling!
Must watch it!
